Andy's Birthday Present [May. 6th, 2008|11:59 pm]

Hmm... what kind of birthday present could possibly involve both strawberry syrup, and a potato?  Feel free to guess away, but I'll neither confirm nor deny until I post the results picture.

/Happy Birthday, [info]cocotapioka!
//And no, it's not anything perverted, you bunch of perverts.  Pre-empted, haha!
///It has nothing to do with Peewee either; he's just holding the items for the picture.

Blackbyrus's Grammar Tips, #1 [Apr. 30th, 2008|03:59 pm]
You end a sentence with a period if it is a statement, a question mark if it is a question, an exclamation mark if it's s'posed to be really loud, and an XD if it is remotely amusing.

Every time a new Skittles flavor comes out, I'm a little bit sad.  Skittles, you see, have gelatin.  For the past few weeks, an online game I recently got into has been constantly pushing Chocolate Skittles, and I resist the temptation to buy a bag and taste them.

But today, while googling to see what the 5 flavors were, I come across a candy blog which informed me that chocolate skittles, as some strange exception, are gelatin-free.  Meaning...

Chocolate Skittles are totally not vegan!!

To quote the inimitable Oogie Boogie...
"You're joking, you're joking, I can't believe my eyes... you're joking me, you gotta be..."

I'm checking the ingredients myself in real life, then adding chocolate Skittles to my list of other unexpectedly-vegan treats, such as Bacos, Eggo waffle cereal, Twizzlers, and Pillsbury crescent rolls.  Hey, just because I'm vegan doesn't mean I necessarily eat healthily, or even have good taste.

Stop Motion, Shared Simplicity [Apr. 23rd, 2008|03:23 am]
I did an oral presentation on stop motion animation Tuesday night.  The teacher seemed to really like it, and my classmates even stayed after class to see a couple of my personal clips that I didn't have time to fit into the presentation.  I'm considering throwing it up here in written form with the pictures and clips if anyone says they're interested in seeing it.

-------------------------------------

Tonight I discovered something beautiful, but I think it only works right before 2 in the morning, and when the moon is shining.  Normally I keep these kinds of things that I see to myself - things too rich to explain, but too simple to be shown.  I sneak back to experience them again and again, but always alone.  Maybe I will share them soon.

15 days.

"Heart, try to keep up, why are you running so slow?"
"What?? I'm running faster than I've ever run before, Head!"
"Well, I've circled around for a few thousand laps already, which are you on?"
"...the first."
"Come now!  The first?  Surely..."
"Head, don't tease.  You know I'm out of practice."
"Just sprint a while - try to catch up!"
"You can't sprint in a marathon."
"A marathon, is it.  I... see.  Heart, I'm getting quite dizzy running in circles like this."
"I'd tell you to take a break, but knowing you, you won't listen anyway.  Just try to not tire yourself out too much, wait for me, and we'll cross the finish line together."

So, I forgot to add a little April Fool's tag on my post a couple of weeks ago, which is just bad form.  Now, all of my friends know that I'm vegan and that I'm looking forward to graduating college in less than a month, but I said some things about accordions that were just crass and uncalled for.  I'm sorry, baby!  I was only joking!  ... I love you, accordion.

Can you tell what chord I'm playing?  Can you guess why?  Can you?  Can you?  Can... you?

Edit:  April Fool's, quite obviously.

I'm going to quit this semester and get a job at McDonald's or Logan's. Both of my classes are just... guh, I didn't realize we were going to have tests and projects. They should really warn about that stuff before you sign up. I'm tired of these same old subjects, too. Neuroscience? Boring. Computers? Boring. Linguistics? Boooorrrriiiiing. If I get that job at Logan's Steakhouse, I hope I get an employee discount!

In other news... I wish my upstairs neighbor would stop playing their accordion. I mean, the songs are played with a lot of technical skill and everything, but I just really can't stand those instruments. What's the difference between an accordion and a trampoline? You take off your shoes when you jump on the trampoline. Amirite?i

The more I learn about human psychology...
I love you all a little bit more each day.

Edit: I do mean *everybody*, not just my friends.  Humans are so fascinating, and increasing numbers of things I previously thought were illogical or troubling make sense from a psychological perspective.

The time has come, the vagrant said,
To talk of many things -
of bees and baths and bobby pins,
of spectacles, and rings
And whether Rome is upside down
And why the fat lady sings.

(Edit: I've had The Walrus and the Carpenter stuck in my head all day, and the more it reiterated in my mind, the more I kept morphing it around, thus, eventually, the above.)

Internet dance party! [Jan. 28th, 2008|12:33 am]
[music |Electric Six - Dance Commander]

I am dancing over the internet with someone across the country, but he couldn't get mp3s to play on his computer for some reason, so we're synching up YouTube music videos and then dancing to them together.  LiveJournal, let me tell you 'bout it.  And why am I on here instead of on the dance floor?  Because he's busy drawing pictures of the dancing to scan later to show me.  Oh, internets!

P.S.  - I would totally paint a man with a hoe, planting seeds... in a giant brain.  Amongst other things.  If I had the skill.

Assuming you had perfect technical skill in painting, what sort of thing would you most want to paint?  What style?

Posting pictures of yourself with elderly women freaking out is totally the new fad on Craig's List.  Maybe it makes the poster look more calm, collected, young, and male in comparison?

Oh, Craig's List... [Dec. 23rd, 2007|07:50 pm]
Craig's List, your one-stop place for quick, easy faith-in-humanity removal.  Browsing around for fun, and admittedly, I shouldn't be shocked to find pathetic ads on a personals site, but this is the only one that had me belly laughing at the sheer audacity of it:

From the "strictly platonic" section:

Let's hang out for "tennis", wink wink.  Whoops, scroll down...
I think the man needs to retake his crash course in subliminal advertising.

A Webcomic Critique/Plug, and a Cell Phone Game [Mar. 21st, 2006|07:35 am]
[mood | content]
[music |Radiohead - We Suck Young Blood]

Last night one of my best friends showed me his webcomic. Although they're certainly beginner's comics, they show a considerable amount of talent behind them. I admit I'm surprised at the skill and effort put into these, because I've always seen him as kind of a slacker (not necessarily a bad thing), but these must have taken some work. I'm looking forward to watching his drawing gradually improve, but he has a real knack for great punchlines already. (Please give me your opinions as well, readers, we'd both love to hear them.) Here are some of my favourites:

http://backroads.comicgenesis.com/d/20060104.html
http://backroads.comicgenesis.com/d/20060109.html
http://backroads.comicgenesis.com/d/20060220.html
http://backroads.comicgenesis.com/d/20060224.html
(I still laugh when I look back at that last one.)

I have a new cell phone, which I managed to get without any extras whatsoever. Yet I've still discovered one fun feature - the 12 character cell phone banner. Every day, I change it to a word that I enjoy, because of meaning, spelling, pronounciation, connotation, anything. So far the list is:

Askewly, Copasetic, Enigmatic, Gorgonzola, Indigo, Kleptomania, Mesomorphic, Orthogonal, Queue, Sacrilege.

U is going to be difficult to choose...come on, what U word isn't interesting?
